Even though classic white remains a favourite among brides, more and more young brides are opting for different coloured wedding outfits for their big day. Coloured wedding dresses are both edgy and glamorous and make for an interesting alternative if you want to do away with the oft-worn all-white look. Says stylist Ankita Rohra, “White is a beautiful colour and quite the epitome of grace, but you can add an individual touch to your dress by adding a dash of colour to your outfit.” We give you a lowdown of some of the most popular colours that have taken over the wedding market.
Pretty in Pink: In retrospect, the colour pink as a wedding trousseau option has been around but has come into the limelight only of late.
Actresses like Jessica Biel, Reese Witherspoon and Gwen Stefani opted for this versatile shade on their big day and rocked the colour too! Says newlywed Karishma Rai, “I opted for a dusty pink outfit for my sangeet along with a nice rosy palette for my make up on the wedding. I’m drawn to the colour pink, it’s so feminine and chic, so I decided to go ahead and play around with it for my wedding.”
Classy champagne: Close to pale hints of yellow and beige, champagne is a sophisticated option for any wedding-day attire. Brides seem to be going for this chic colour more than ever before thanks to its classy vibe and flexible nature that allows it to go with just about any skin tone, be it dusky, wheatish or fair. Pair this rich yet subtle colour with tints of white, red or black and you’ll be the bride with enough class to light up the reception hall.
Royal blue: This season, ditch the traditional colours and go for something a little more low-key but striking, nonetheless. Brides are opting for many different shades of blue for at least one of their many functions. “I’m getting a lehenga in a blue and pink combination for my reception. It is embellished with embroidery and glass work. I have a feeling it will be a big hit,” gushes bride-to-be Neelakshi Sharma. Pastel blue and royal blue are the big shades this
wedding season.
Knock ’em red: A splash of red can make any mundane outfit look stunning and what’s more, it can go with just about any colour and still stand out. Red has a timeless allure that makes every outfit look mesmerising. It’s undoubtedly one of the most popular wedding colours not just for Indian brides but also abroad for bridesmaid dresses.
Go gaga in green: While pista green is a perennial Indian favourite, brides and wedding guests are now opting for more unusual shades like mint, moss, neon and emerald. A neon lehenga is a definite standout and a daring choice for young brides, but could pay off in the long run.
